CIC2021 Week 2 Recap

Week2_Recap_CL-04.png

This week of CIC has only been a hole punch look into the Gaming and Journalism industries! With help from our Industry Professionals, Oscar Wong from Electronic Arts and Christopher Cheung from The Tyee, we had multifaceted (and often inaccessible) information about internal communications, design, reporting and editing neatly tied together through our podcast episode and Instagram takeover!

On Wednesday March 10, our second CMNSU & Friends episode with Gen, Kat, and Christopher went live on Spotify! Christopher shared sentiments that many students entering jobs in news and publishing ought to hear, such as the need to be open to new tasks and projects, be reliable so editors can trust you for pitches and to be curious but to ‘explore indiscriminately’ which can look like reporting on marginalized communities with care; looking inward as a tool to learn more about them for a fuller story!

Ahead of Oscar’s takeover, we had some of you guys submit questions for him to answer. Oscar emphasized the importance of talking to unfamiliar faces and how it landed him his job now where his team supports the growth of one another! He also shared how he stood out as a candidate where he not only made a portfolio of his communications collateral and content, but how he also had Co-op experiences that were crucial to gaining relevant knowledge and a clearer perception of the professional world!

A massive thank you to Oscar, Christopher and everybody that submitted questions and engaged with our week 2 content. Don’t put your laptop and notebooks in your bag just yet, we have 2 more weeks of Communication career expertise lined up for you!
